Beeping Continuously

Advice UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Advice UPS beeping continuously usually means the UPS is running on battery power (power outage or very low input voltage), has a battery fault, or is in an overload condition. Check the front panel display or LED indicators to read the specific alarm code.

Affected Models

  • Advice UPS Line-Interactive Series
  • Advice UPS Online Series
  • Advice UPS (all models)

Common Causes

  • Mains power failure — UPS running on battery and draining fast
  • Input voltage too low (brownout) — UPS switching to battery to maintain stable output
  • Battery fault — battery cannot hold charge and triggers continuous alarm
  • Overload — connected equipment drawing more power than UPS rated output
  • UPS battery fully discharged during extended power cut

How to Fix It

  1. Identify the beep pattern.

A beep every 4 seconds = running on battery (power cut or brownout). Four beeps per second = overload. Continuous long beep = battery critically low or battery fault. Refer to the Advice UPS manual for the specific pattern list for your model.

  2. Check if mains power has failed.

Check if other devices in the building have lost power. If the building is on power but the UPS is still beeping, check the input cable connection — a loose power cable can cause the UPS to run on battery.

  3. Reduce the load on the UPS.

If the pattern indicates overload (fast beeping), disconnect non-essential devices from the UPS outlets. Keep only critical equipment (computer, monitor) connected. The overload beeping should stop as soon as load drops below the UPS rated capacity.

  4. Allow the battery to recharge.

After a power cut that drained the battery, the UPS needs 8–12 hours of connected mains power to recharge the battery fully. The beeping should stop once the battery reaches a safe charge level. Do not disconnect the UPS from mains during the recharge.

  5. Check for a battery fault alarm.

If the front panel shows a battery fault indicator alongside the beeping, the battery has failed and needs replacement. A faulty battery cannot be recharged and will continue to trigger the alarm. See the battery replacement guide for your Advice UPS model.

When to Call a Professional

If the UPS beeps continuously with mains power restored, normal load, and no fault indicators, the alarm circuit or battery charge electronics may need service. Contact Advice or the local UPS service center.
