Display Not Working
Advice UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Advice UPS display not working is usually caused by the display timeout entering sleep mode, or the UPS being in battery-save mode with a low battery. Press any button on the front panel to wake the display. If there is no response, restart the UPS.
Affected Models
- Advice UPS Line-Interactive Series
- Advice UPS Online Series
- Advice UPS with LCD or LED display
Common Causes
- Display sleep mode — UPS dims or turns off display after period of inactivity
- UPS in ECO or sleep mode with very low battery
- Display backlight failure — LCD still functions but cannot be seen
- Firmware crash — display controller has locked up
- Display ribbon cable loose after physical movement or vibration
How to Fix It
-
Press a front panel button to wake the display.
Many Advice UPS models dim or blank the display after 15–30 minutes of inactivity to save power. Press any button on the front panel (Power, Test, or Mute). The display should immediately illuminate with the current status.
-
Check if the UPS is running on battery.
If the UPS is running on battery with a low charge, some models reduce display brightness or blank the display to conserve battery for the connected equipment. Connect the UPS to mains power and wait for the battery to charge. The display should restore once on mains.
-
Restart the UPS.
Hold the power button to turn off the UPS completely. Wait 30 seconds, then power back on. A firmware crash can cause the display controller to lock up — a restart resets it.
-
Check the display in a dark room.
LCD backlight failures cause the display to be invisible in normal light but readable when viewed at an angle in darkness. If you can read the display in a dark room but not in normal light, the backlight has failed. Contact Advice support for display repair.
-
Verify the UPS is otherwise functional.
Confirm the UPS is providing output power to connected devices and that the battery test can be triggered. If everything else works and only the display is blank, the fault is cosmetic (display module only). The UPS can still protect connected equipment without a working display.
When to Call a Professional
If the UPS functions normally (outputs power, responds to battery test) but the display stays blank permanently, the display module or its connection to the control board has failed. Contact Advice support.
