ECO Mode Not Working / Green Mode Inactive
Advice UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Advice UPS ECO mode not activating is usually because the feature is not available on Line-Interactive models — ECO mode typically requires an Online (double-conversion) UPS. Check your model's specifications to confirm ECO mode is supported.
Affected Models
- Advice UPS Online Series (ECO mode supported)
- Advice UPS Line-Interactive Series (ECO mode may not be available)
Common Causes
- ECO mode not supported on the current UPS model — only available on online double-conversion models
- ECO mode threshold (input voltage tolerance) set too narrow — not activating due to mains quality
- ECO mode disabled in the UPS management software settings
- Input voltage outside the ECO mode acceptance window
- Firmware issue preventing ECO mode from engaging
How to Fix It
-
Confirm ECO mode is supported on your model.
ECO mode (also called Green mode or bypass mode with filtering) is typically only available on online double-conversion UPS models. Check your Advice UPS specifications sheet or the front panel mode indicator. Line-interactive models generally do not support ECO mode.
-
Enable ECO mode in the UPS management software.
Open the Advice UPS monitoring or management software. Navigate to Settings or Configuration and look for an ECO Mode or Green Mode toggle. Enable it and confirm the setting is saved.
-
Adjust the ECO mode voltage threshold.
ECO mode activates only when the mains input voltage is within the configured tolerance range. If the range is set too narrow (e.g., 220–230V), small fluctuations in mains voltage will prevent ECO mode from engaging. Widen the acceptance window to 200–240V in the software settings.
-
Update the UPS firmware.
Download the latest firmware for your Advice UPS model from the Advice website. Apply the update using the management software. Firmware updates sometimes fix ECO mode engagement bugs present in earlier versions.
-
Verify mains power quality.
ECO mode requires stable, clean mains power to remain engaged. Frequent voltage spikes, sags, or frequency deviations will cause the UPS to exit ECO mode and switch to active conversion. In areas with poor power quality, ECO mode will engage infrequently regardless of settings.
When to Call a Professional
ECO mode is a software and configuration feature. No hardware repair is needed. Contact Advice UPS support if ECO mode appears in the settings but does not engage after correct configuration.
