ECO Mode Not Working
CyberPower UPS
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
CyberPower ECO mode is not working usually because the controlled outlet load never drops below the ECO mode threshold, or ECO mode was not enabled in PowerPanel software. Check that ECO mode is enabled and that the load on the controlled outlets is below the UPS threshold setting.
Affected Models
- CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD
- CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD
- CyberPower CP685AVRG
- CyberPower EC850LCD
- All CyberPower UPS models with ECO mode
Common Causes
- ECO mode not enabled in PowerPanel software — it is off by default on most models
- Controlled outlet load stays above the ECO threshold — outlets never switch off
- ECO threshold set too low — requires very little activity to keep outlets on
- PowerPanel software not installed or not running — software-controlled ECO features require it
- Firmware bug on older units — updating firmware resolves ECO mode activation issues
How to Fix It
-
Enable ECO mode in PowerPanel software.
Open CyberPower PowerPanel Personal or Business Edition. Navigate to Settings → ECO Mode and toggle it on. ECO mode is disabled by default on most CyberPower UPS models — it must be explicitly turned on in software.
-
Set the ECO mode load threshold.
In PowerPanel ECO Mode settings, configure the load threshold percentage. When the outlet load drops below this threshold for a set time, ECO mode switches the controlled outlets off. A threshold of 10–20% works for most setups where a sleeping PC draws very little power.
-
Check which outlets are the ECO-controlled outlets.
CyberPower UPS models with ECO mode have designated controlled outlets — typically labeled or colored differently from the always-on battery backup outlets. Plugging devices into the battery backup outlets instead of ECO-controlled outlets means ECO mode will never switch them off. Consult your UPS manual to identify the ECO-controlled outlet group.
-
Update PowerPanel software and UPS firmware.
Download the latest PowerPanel version from cyberpower.com. Connect the UPS via USB and check if a firmware update is available in PowerPanel. Firmware updates on older CyberPower models have fixed ECO mode activation bugs.
-
Test ECO mode manually.
After enabling ECO mode and setting the threshold, put your computer to sleep and watch the load meter in PowerPanel. When load drops below your threshold for the configured delay time, the ECO outlets should switch off. If they do not, increase the threshold slightly — some monitors and peripherals draw more standby power than expected.
When to Call a Professional
ECO mode is an energy-saving feature, not a protection issue. If ECO mode still fails to activate after enabling it in PowerPanel and setting an appropriate threshold, contact CyberPower support for firmware assistance.
