USB Port Not Working / No USB Communication
CyberPower UPS
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
CyberPower UPS USB port not working is most often caused by a loose USB cable, the wrong cable type (USB-A to USB-B required), or PowerPanel software needing a reinstall. Try a different USB cable and USB port on your PC first.
Affected Models
- CyberPower CP600LCD
- CyberPower CP850PFCLCD
- CyberPower CP1350PFCLCD
- CyberPower CP1500AVRLCD
- All CyberPower UPS models with USB HID port
Common Causes
- USB cable not fully seated on either the UPS or PC end
- Wrong USB cable type — UPS requires a USB-A to USB-B cable (printer-style), not a data cable
- PC USB port is faulty — test a different port
- PowerPanel software driver conflict or corrupt installation
- UPS USB HID port disabled or failed after a power surge
How to Fix It
-
Check the USB cable and connections.
CyberPower UPS units use a USB-A to USB-B cable — the same style as a printer cable. Unplug and firmly reseat both ends of the cable. Try a different USB port on your PC — front-panel USB ports are often unpowered and unreliable for UPS communication.
-
Try a different USB cable.
USB-B cables can fail internally while looking fine externally. Use a known-working USB-A to USB-B cable from a printer or scanner. Avoid USB-C adapters — they can cause intermittent detection issues with UPS HID drivers.
-
Check Device Manager for the UPS.
On Windows, open Device Manager and look under Batteries or Human Interface Devices for the CyberPower UPS. If it shows a yellow exclamation mark, right-click and choose Update Driver. If it is not listed at all, the cable or USB port is the problem, not the driver.
-
Reinstall PowerPanel software.
Uninstall PowerPanel from Windows Control Panel. Download the latest version from cyberpower.com. Install it fresh and reconnect the USB cable when prompted. A corrupt PowerPanel installation is a common cause of UPS not being detected.
-
Test the UPS on a different computer.
Connect the UPS USB cable to a different PC to determine if the problem is the UPS or your PC. If PowerPanel detects the UPS on another machine, the issue is with your original PC's USB port or driver stack. If the UPS is not detected on any PC, the UPS USB port has likely failed.
When to Call a Professional
If a new USB-A to USB-B cable connected to a different PC port still fails to establish communication, and reinstalling PowerPanel does not help, the UPS USB HID circuit may be damaged. Contact CyberPower support.
