Ink Pad Saturated
Epson Printer
Severity: CriticalWhat Does This Error Mean?
Epson printer ink pad saturated means the waste ink absorber inside the printer is full. Epson locks the printer to prevent ink overflow. Use the Epson Adjustment Program to reset the waste ink counter — this is the only way to continue printing.
Affected Models
- Epson EcoTank Series
- Epson Expression Series
- Epson WorkForce Series
- Epson XP Series
- Epson Stylus Series
Common Causes
- Waste ink pad has absorbed ink from every print head cleaning cycle over the printer's life
- Heavy use of automatic head cleaning shortens pad life significantly
- This is a designed maintenance indicator, not a hardware failure
How to Fix It
-
Download the Epson Adjustment Program.
Search for the Epson Adjustment Program (also called Epson Service Adjustment Utility) for your specific printer model number. This is the official utility used to reset the waste ink counter. Ensure you download the version for your exact model.
-
Connect the printer via USB.
The Epson Adjustment Program requires a direct USB connection to the printer. Connect the printer with a USB cable before running the utility.
-
Reset the waste ink pad counter.
Open the Epson Adjustment Program and select Waste Ink Pad Counter. Check the current counter value, then click Initialization to reset it to zero. The programme will ask you to restart the printer to complete the reset.
-
Replace or clean the physical ink pad.
Resetting the counter allows the printer to run again, but the physical pad inside the printer is still saturated. For a proper long-term fix, the waste ink pad should be replaced or cleaned. This requires opening the printer case — a job for a service centre or a confident DIYer.
When to Call a Professional
If you are not comfortable using the Epson Adjustment Program yourself, an Epson-authorised service centre can reset the counter and replace the physical waste ink pad. Physical pad replacement is recommended alongside any counter reset.
