W-07

Epson Printer

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Epson error W-07 is an ink low warning. It means one or more ink cartridges in your printer are running low and will need to be replaced soon. You can continue printing for now, but order replacement ink so you have it ready.

Affected Models

  • Epson EcoTank ET-2800
  • Epson EcoTank ET-3850
  • Epson WorkForce WF-2960
  • Epson Expression Home XP-4100
  • Epson Expression Premium XP-6100

Common Causes

  • One or more ink cartridges have been used heavily and are approaching empty
  • A large print job or photo printing session depleted the ink faster than expected
  • The printer ran multiple cleaning cycles, consuming extra ink from the cartridges
  • A small capacity standard cartridge was installed instead of an XL capacity cartridge
  • The printer's ink level tracking reported a low level from a refilled or third-party cartridge

How to Fix It

  1. Check which ink color is low. Open the Epson Smart Panel app on your phone or the Epson printer software on your computer to see individual ink levels for each color.

The printer display may also indicate which color is low using a color-coded icon or bar.

  2. Continue printing as normal for now. W-07 is an early warning — you still have ink remaining. You do not need to stop printing immediately.

Print quality usually remains good until the cartridge is almost completely empty.

  3. If you have a cartridge-based Epson, order a replacement cartridge for the low color. Check the cartridge number on a label inside your printer's front cover.

Consider buying XL capacity cartridges — they hold more ink and are more cost-effective per page than standard capacity cartridges.

  4. If you have an EcoTank printer (ET model), check the ink tank windows on the front or side of the printer. Refill the low color tank with genuine Epson EcoTank ink.

Only use Epson EcoTank refill bottles for your specific printer model. Using the wrong ink can damage the print head.

  5. After replacing or refilling the ink, print a nozzle check pattern to confirm the new ink is flowing properly.

Go to Menu > Maintenance > Print Head Nozzle Check to run a nozzle check.

When to Call a Professional

W-07 is an ink level warning — not a mechanical fault. No repair is needed. Simply replacing the low cartridge or refilling the EcoTank reservoir (depending on your model) is all that is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much ink is left when W-07 appears?

The exact amount varies by model and cartridge, but the printer typically shows this warning when there is roughly 10 to 15 percent of ink remaining. This is enough for a meaningful number of additional pages — often 20 to 50 pages depending on the cartridge size and print coverage. You have enough time to order ink before running out completely.

Can I dismiss W-07 and keep printing?

Yes. Press the Start or OK button to dismiss the warning and continue printing. The printer will remind you periodically as the ink level continues to drop. Printing will stop automatically when the cartridge is completely empty — the warning is designed to give you advance notice.

What is the difference between a standard and XL Epson cartridge?

XL (extra large) cartridges contain more ink than standard cartridges — typically 2 to 3 times as much. The XL version costs a bit more upfront but is significantly more cost-effective per page. For example, if a standard black cartridge yields 200 pages, an XL black might yield 500 pages at a lower cost per page. For regular users, XL cartridges are almost always the better value.
