Wi-Fi Not Connecting

Epson Inkjet Printer

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Epson printer Wi-Fi problems are most often caused by the printer and router needing a restart, an incorrect Wi-Fi password stored on the printer, or the router not broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network. Running the Epson Wi-Fi setup again from scratch resolves most cases.

Affected Models

  • Epson EcoTank series
  • Epson Expression series
  • Epson WorkForce series
  • Epson XP series

Common Causes

  • Stored Wi-Fi password is incorrect or has been changed on the router
  • Router needs restart — DHCP conflict or lease expiry
  • Printer only supports 2.4 GHz but router's 2.4 GHz band is off
  • Printer IP address conflict
  • Router MAC filtering blocking the printer
  • Epson printer firmware needs update

How to Fix It

  1. Restart the printer and the router.

Turn off the Epson printer. Unplug the router, wait 30 seconds, plug back in. Wait 60 seconds for the router to fully reconnect to the internet. Turn the printer back on. Attempt Wi-Fi setup again.

  2. Run the Wi-Fi setup wizard again.

On the printer control panel: press the Wi-Fi or Home button → Wi-Fi Setup → Wi-Fi Setup Wizard. Select your network name (SSID) and re-enter the password carefully, paying attention to uppercase, lowercase, and special characters. This clears any incorrectly stored credentials.

  3. Use WPS if your router supports it.

Press the WPS button on your router (usually labelled WPS, held for 2–3 seconds until the WPS light blinks). Then on the printer: Wi-Fi Setup → Push Button (WPS). The printer and router exchange credentials automatically — no password entry required. WPS is the most reliable way to connect if password entry is failing.

  4. Check the router's 2.4 GHz band.

Epson printers connect only to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi — they do not support 5 GHz. Log into your router admin page and confirm the 2.4 GHz band is enabled. If your router uses a combined band name (same SSID for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), temporarily connect only the printer to a separated 2.4 GHz network.

  5. Print a network status sheet to diagnose.

Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for 3 seconds until a status sheet prints. This shows the current IP address, SSID connected to, signal strength, and any error codes. Use this information to confirm whether the printer has connected but has no IP, or whether it cannot find the network at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Epson printer keep losing Wi-Fi connection?

Repeated Wi-Fi disconnections on Epson printers are usually caused by a dynamic IP address that changes each time the printer or router restarts, breaking the connection Windows has saved. The fix is to assign a static IP address to the printer — done through the printer's Network Settings menu. Also ensure the router has 2.4 GHz enabled and that the printer is within reasonable range (under 10 metres without thick walls).
