Ice Maker Not Working

Bosch Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Bosch fridge ice maker not working? Check that the ice maker is switched on, the freezer is at -18°C, and the water supply valve behind the fridge is fully open. Also check the water filter is not overdue for replacement.

Affected Models

  • Bosch Serie 6 Fridge-Freezer
  • Bosch Serie 8 Fridge-Freezer
  • Bosch Ice Maker Refrigerator
  • Bosch French Door Refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Ice maker switched off via control panel
  • Freezer temperature above -15°C — too warm for ice production
  • Water supply valve closed or partially closed
  • Overdue water filter restricting water flow
  • Ice tray jammed with a frozen clump
  • Failed water inlet valve solenoid

How to Fix It

  1. Confirm the ice maker is enabled.

Check the fridge control panel for an ice maker On/Off setting. Also ensure the ice bin is correctly inserted — Bosch models often disable the ice maker if the bin is not fully pushed in.

  2. Verify the freezer temperature.

The freezer must be at -18°C for effective ice production. Set the freezer to its coldest setting and wait 24 hours before expecting ice if the temperature was too warm.

  3. Check the water supply.

Locate the water supply valve behind the fridge (usually connected to the cold water supply under the sink or behind the unit). Turn it fully open. Also check that the supply line has no kinks.

  4. Replace the water filter if overdue.

Bosch water filters need replacing every 12 months or when the indicator light prompts. An overdue filter significantly restricts water flow to the ice maker. After replacement, run several litres through the water dispenser to prime the system.

When to Call a Professional

If the freezer is at the correct temperature, water flows freely to the fridge, and a manual test cycle produces no ice, the water inlet valve or ice maker module has failed and needs replacement.
