Ice Maker Not Working
Frigidaire Refrigerator
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Frigidaire ice maker not working? Check the wire shut-off arm on the ice maker first — if it is in the up position, the ice maker is switched off. Also confirm the freezer is at 0°F (-18°C) and the water supply valve is open.
Affected Models
- Frigidaire French Door Refrigerator
- Frigidaire Side-by-Side Refrigerator
- Frigidaire Gallery Refrigerator
- Frigidaire Professional Refrigerator
Common Causes
- Ice maker arm in the off (up) position
- Freezer temperature above 10°F (-12°C) — too warm for ice production
- Water supply shut-off valve closed
- Clogged water filter restricting flow
- Frozen water inlet line
- Failed water inlet valve or ice maker module
How to Fix It
-
Check the ice maker arm position.
Locate the metal or plastic wire arm on the side of the ice maker module. If it is in the up position, the ice maker is switched off. Push the arm down to activate the ice maker. This is a frequently overlooked setting.
-
Verify the freezer temperature.
The freezer must be at 0°F (-18°C) for the ice maker to cycle. Check the temperature display or use a thermometer. If the freezer is too warm, resolve the cooling issue first.
-
Check the water supply valve.
Locate the shut-off valve on the cold water pipe connected to the fridge. Turn it fully open counter-clockwise. Also check the line for kinks.
-
Replace the water filter.
Frigidaire recommends replacing the water filter every 6 months. An overdue filter reduces water pressure to the ice maker and can stop it entirely. After replacement, flush 2 litres through the dispenser to prime the filter.
When to Call a Professional
If the arm is down, the freezer is cold, water flows to the fridge, and a manual test cycle does not produce ice, the water inlet valve or ice maker module has failed and needs replacement.
