Door Alarm Beeping

LG Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

LG fridge door alarm beeping means a door has been open for more than 2 minutes. Close all doors firmly and the alarm will stop. If the alarm beeps with the doors closed, the door switch or gasket has a fault.

Affected Models

  • LG French Door Refrigerator
  • LG Side-by-Side Refrigerator
  • LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
  • LG InstaView Refrigerator
  • LG Top Freezer Refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Door left open — standard alarm after 2 minutes
  • Door not closing fully — item inside blocking the door
  • Worn door gasket no longer sealing — door appears closed but is not
  • Faulty door switch not detecting the door as closed
  • Ice build-up around the freezer door gasket preventing a full close

How to Fix It

  1. Close all doors firmly.

Push each door closed and ensure it latches. On French door models, the right door must close before the left — if the left door is closed first, it can prevent the right door from sealing fully.

  2. Check for items blocking the door.

Inspect the inside of the fridge for items on the door shelves, tall bottles, or produce that is preventing the door from closing flush. Rearrange contents so nothing protrudes past the door opening.

  3. Inspect the door gasket.

Run your hand around the door gasket with the door closed. You should feel no airflow. If you feel cool air escaping, the gasket is cracked, torn, or has hardened and is not sealing. Replace the gasket if damaged.

  4. Check for frost around the freezer door seal.

Ice build-up around the freezer gasket prevents a full seal. If frost is visible around the door edge, leave the freezer door open for an hour to defrost the area, then close and test the alarm.

When to Call a Professional

If the door closes fully and the gasket seals properly but the alarm persists, the door switch has failed and needs replacement.
