Ice Maker Not Working
LG Refrigerator
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
LG ice maker not producing ice? Check that the ice maker is turned on and the freezer is at -18°C. Also check that the water supply line is connected and the water filter is not overdue for replacement.
Affected Models
- LG French Door Refrigerator
- LG Side-by-Side Refrigerator
- LG InstaView Refrigerator
- LG Bottom Freezer Refrigerator
Common Causes
- Ice maker switched off accidentally via the control panel
- Freezer temperature too warm — above -15°C stops ice production
- Blocked or frozen water supply line
- Clogged or overdue water filter reducing water pressure
- Ice maker assembly jammed with a clump of ice
- Failed ice maker module
How to Fix It
-
Check that the ice maker is switched on.
On LG models the ice maker has an On/Off button or a setting in the control panel. Also check that the ice bin is correctly seated — many LG models switch off the ice maker automatically if the bin is not fully pushed in.
-
Verify freezer temperature.
The freezer must be at -18°C or lower for the ice maker to produce ice. If the freezer is warmer than -15°C, resolve the cooling issue first before expecting ice production.
-
Check the water supply line.
Locate the water supply line at the back of the fridge. Ensure the shut-off valve is fully open. If the line has not been used for a long time or the fridge was moved, the line may have a kink or an ice blockage inside the freezer door.
-
Replace the water filter.
LG recommends replacing the water filter every 6 months. An overdue filter restricts flow enough to prevent ice maker fill cycles. After replacing the filter, run 2–3 litres of water through the dispenser to prime the new filter.
When to Call a Professional
If the freezer is at correct temperature, water supply is flowing freely, and the ice maker test cycle produces no ice or produces misshapen ice consistently, the ice maker module or water inlet valve has failed and needs replacement.
