Not Cooling

Miele Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

A Miele fridge that is not cooling usually has a dirty condenser filter, a failed evaporator fan, or a defrost system fault that has allowed ice to block the evaporator coils. Clean the condenser first — it is the most common and easiest fix.

How to Fix It

  1. Clean the condenser filter. On most Miele freestanding fridges it is at the bottom behind the kick plate — a rectangular black filter that collects dust. Remove and wash it under running water, then allow it to dry before refitting.

  2. Check that the fridge vents at the rear or top are not blocked by items pushed against the wall. Miele fridges need adequate clearance for heat to escape.

  3. Open the freezer section. Listen for the evaporator fan. If the compressor is running but the fan is silent, the fan motor has failed.

  4. If the inside of the freezer rear panel feels icy and the fridge has been slowly losing temperature over weeks, a defrost fault has allowed ice to build up. Manually defrost and test the defrost components.

  5. If the fridge shows a temperature alarm on the display, note the code and check the manual for the specific fault. Miele service codes begin with the letter F followed by two digits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Miele display a fault code when the fridge stops cooling?

Miele fridges display acoustic and visual alarms for temperature deviations, and some models show F codes for specific component faults. Check the display and consult your model manual for the code meaning.

How often should I clean the Miele condenser filter?

Miele recommends cleaning the condenser filter twice a year. In homes with pets or high dust levels, clean it every 3 months. A blocked filter is the most common cause of reduced cooling efficiency.

My Miele fridge is making a loud noise and not cooling — what does that mean?

A loud noise combined with poor cooling often points to a fan blade obstruction or a failing compressor. Switch off, inspect the fan, and contact Miele service if the compressor is suspected.
