Water Dispenser Not Working

Samsung Refrigerator

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

If the Samsung fridge water dispenser is not working, first check the Child Lock — pressing and holding the lock button for 3 seconds disables the dispenser. Also replace the water filter if it has not been changed in 6 months.

Affected Models

  • Samsung French Door Refrigerator
  • Samsung Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Common Causes

  • Child Lock or Dispenser Lock active on the control panel
  • Water filter clogged — reduces flow to a trickle then stops
  • Water supply line kinked or shut off behind the fridge
  • Frozen water line in the freezer door
  • Inlet valve failed

How to Fix It

  1. Check the Child Lock / Dispenser Lock.

On the control panel, look for a lock icon or 'Child Lock' label. Hold the corresponding button for 3 seconds to toggle the lock off. When locked, no dispenser or control panel inputs are accepted.

  2. Replace the water filter.

A clogged water filter is the most common cause of a slow or stopped Samsung water dispenser. Samsung recommends replacing the filter every 6 months. After replacing, press and hold the Water Filter Reset button, then dispense 2–3 litres of water to purge air and installation residue.

  3. Check the water supply line.

Pull the fridge away from the wall and inspect the water supply line. Confirm the shut-off valve is fully open. Check for kinks in the line — straighten any kinks and retest.

  4. Thaw a frozen door water line.

The water line running through the freezer door can freeze if the freezer temperature is set very low or the door was ajar. Unplug the fridge and leave the freezer door open for 2 hours. Use a hair dryer on low heat along the bottom edge of the door to speed thawing.

  5. Test the inlet valve.

If water reaches the fridge (confirmed by disconnecting the supply line at the fridge and briefly opening the valve to check flow) but still does not dispense, the water inlet valve solenoid may have failed. A failed solenoid does not click when activated — replacement is a service-level repair.
