Dustbin Full Error

Roborock Robot Vacuum

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

A Roborock dustbin full error when the bin appears empty is almost always caused by dust coating the optical dustbin sensor inside the robot. Remove the dustbin and clean the small sensor window inside the robot chassis with a dry cloth.

Affected Models

  • Roborock S5
  • Roborock S6
  • Roborock S7
  • Roborock Q5
  • Roborock Q7
  • Roborock E4

Common Causes

  • Dustbin sensor lens coated with fine dust, triggering a false full reading
  • Dustbin not fully inserted — sensor not making correct contact
  • Dustbin actually full of compressed fine dust that appears empty
  • Sensor fault requiring a reset or factory reset
  • Filter clogged preventing airflow, indirectly triggering the dustbin sensor

How to Fix It

  1. Remove the dustbin and clean the optical sensor window inside the robot with a dry cotton swab.

The dustbin full sensor is a small infrared emitter and receiver inside the dustbin cavity of the robot. Fine dust on either window causes false full readings. Clean both the emitter and receiver.

  2. Empty and tap the dustbin to dislodge compressed fine dust, even if it looks empty.

Fine dust compresses and can appear to leave the bin empty while the weight sensor or optical sensor still reads full. Tap firmly and blow out residual dust.

  3. Clean or replace the HEPA filter.

A clogged filter reduces airflow through the dustbin. On some models, this affects the sensor readings. Clean the filter by tapping it against a bin to remove loose dust, or replace it if overdue.

  4. Reinsert the dustbin firmly until it clicks and test.

A dustbin that is not fully seated will not make correct sensor contact. Remove and push back in with firm pressure until you feel the click.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I empty the Roborock dustbin?

Empty the dustbin after every 1-2 cleaning runs under normal conditions. For homes with pets or heavy dust, empty after every run. A consistently full bin forces the motor to work harder and reduces suction performance.

How often should I replace the Roborock HEPA filter?

Roborock recommends replacing the HEPA filter every 6 months under normal use. You can extend this by cleaning the filter by tapping it out once a month. Never wash the HEPA filter — water damages the filtration material.
