Error 5
Roborock Robot Vacuum
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Roborock Error 5 means the main brush roll has become tangled with hair or debris and the motor has stalled. Removing and cleaning the main brush always fixes this.
Affected Models
- Roborock S5
- Roborock S6 MaxV
- Roborock S7
- Roborock Q5 Max
- Roborock E4
Common Causes
- Hair (human or pet) tightly wrapped around the main brush roll
- String, thread, or ribbon caught in the brush
- Thick debris (sock, large clump of pet fur) jammed in the brush housing
- Brush end bearings seized from accumulated hair
- Main brush motor has stalled due to prolonged obstruction
How to Fix It
-
Press the power button to stop the robot. Flip it over.
Never try to remove the brush while the robot is on — the brush motor can restart unexpectedly.
-
Press the two yellow clips on either side of the main brush cover and lift the cover off.
The brush cover snaps off with firm finger pressure on the clips. No tools needed.
-
Lift out the main brush roll. Use the cleaning tool (included with your Roborock) or scissors to cut and remove all hair wrapped around it.
Focus especially on the two ends of the brush roll — hair accumulates most at the end caps and can seize the bearings.
-
Clean the brush housing (the channel the brush sits in) with a dry cloth to remove packed dust and fine debris.
Even after removing the brush, residual debris in the housing can re-jam the brush on the next run.
-
Reinsert the brush roll (it only fits one way — the yellow end goes into the yellow socket) and snap the cover back on.
The cover must click firmly into place on both clips. A loose cover can vibrate during cleaning and fall off.
When to Call a Professional
If the brush roll spins freely after cleaning and Error 5 still appears, the brush motor or encoder may have failed. Contact Roborock support.
Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I clean the Roborock main brush?
Roborock recommends cleaning the main brush every week if you have no pets, and every 2–3 days if you have pets or long-haired household members. You should clean it immediately any time you hear a change in the robot's running sound or notice the error appearing.
Should I use the rubber brush or the bristle brush in my Roborock?
Roborock includes both a rubber brush (better for pet hair and hard floors) and a bristle brush (better for deep carpet cleaning) with some models. For mixed-floor homes with pets, the rubber brush is generally preferred — hair does not wrap around rubber as easily as around bristles.
