Not Charging
Roborock Robot Vacuum
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A Roborock that won't charge is almost always caused by dirty charging contacts on the robot or the dock, or the dock itself losing power. Cleaning the contacts and confirming the dock has power fixes most charging failures.
Affected Models
- Roborock S5 Max
- Roborock S6 Pure
- Roborock S7
- Roborock Q5+
- Roborock S8 Pro Ultra
Common Causes
- Charging contacts on the robot's underside are dirty
- Dock charging contacts (metal strips on the dock face) are coated in dust
- Dock is not receiving power (unplugged, tripped circuit)
- Robot docked at an angle and contacts are not aligned
- Battery has reached end of life
- Dock power adapter cable is damaged
How to Fix It
-
Check that the dock is plugged in and its indicator light is on. Follow the power cord to the wall outlet and confirm the outlet has power.
A dock that is accidentally unplugged is the most common and most embarrassing cause of a Roborock not charging.
-
Clean the two charging contacts on the underside of the robot (two metal strips near the front) with a dry cloth or a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
Pet hair, floor wax, and cleaning product residue coat the contacts over time. Even a thin film can prevent charging.
-
Clean the two charging contact strips on the front face of the dock with a dry cloth.
Dust settles on the dock contacts whenever the robot is away cleaning. A monthly wipe prevents charging problems before they start.
-
Manually place the robot directly on the dock and observe whether the charging indicator in the app activates.
If the robot drove onto the dock at an angle, the contacts may be slightly misaligned. Manual placement with contacts aligned directly against the dock strips will confirm if charging works.
-
Try a different outlet for the dock. If the robot begins charging on a different outlet, the original outlet or circuit has a power issue.
Some Roborock chargers draw enough power to trip older or weaker circuits, especially when shared with other high-draw devices.
When to Call a Professional
If contacts are clean and the dock has power but the robot still will not charge, the battery may have failed. Contact Roborock support at roborock.com/support.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my Roborock is charging?
When charging correctly, the Roborock shows a pulsing white light on its indicator. In the Roborock app, the battery icon will display a charging symbol and the percentage will increase over time. A full charge from empty takes approximately 4–6 hours depending on the model.
How long does a Roborock battery last before needing replacement?
Roborock batteries typically last 3–5 years or about 500 charge cycles under normal use. Signs of an aging battery include shorter cleaning run times, the robot returning to dock more frequently, and not completing full-home cleans. Replacement batteries cost $25–$50 and are straightforward to install.
