Not Connecting to Wi-Fi

Roborock Robot Vacuum

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Roborock only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. If your router is on 5 GHz only, or the password was entered incorrectly, setup will fail. Switching to 2.4 GHz and carefully re-entering the password fixes most Roborock Wi-Fi issues.

Affected Models

  • Roborock S5 Max
  • Roborock S6 Pure
  • Roborock S7
  • Roborock Q5+
  • Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

Common Causes

  • Router is set to 5 GHz only — Roborock requires 2.4 GHz
  • Wi-Fi password entered incorrectly in the app
  • Phone was on 5 GHz during setup — app sent wrong network credentials
  • Router has special characters in the SSID (network name) that confuse the robot
  • Router firmware issue causing 2.4 GHz band instability
  • Roborock firmware bug (fixed in updates)

How to Fix It

  1. On your phone, disconnect from Wi-Fi and reconnect specifically to your 2.4 GHz network before opening the Roborock app.

If your router has separate names for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (e.g., 'HomeNetwork' and 'HomeNetwork_5G'), connect to the one without '_5G' before setting up the robot.

  2. In the Roborock app setup wizard, enter the Wi-Fi password very carefully. Passwords are case-sensitive.

If your password contains special characters like @ # $ or !, double-check they are being entered correctly. On some phone keyboards, special characters are on different pages and can be mis-selected.

  3. Place the Roborock and your phone within 2 metres of the router during initial setup.

A strong signal during the first connection is important. Move the robot to its permanent location after a successful initial setup.

  4. If your router combines both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under a single network name (band steering), temporarily disable band steering in the router settings during robot setup.

Band steering can cause the robot to be pushed to the 5 GHz band which it cannot use. Disabling it temporarily allows the robot to connect to 2.4 GHz. Re-enable band steering after the robot is connected.

  5. Check for a Roborock firmware update in the app. Several Wi-Fi connectivity bugs have been fixed in updates.

To update: ensure the robot is on the dock > open the Roborock app > Devices > your robot > More settings > Software Update.

When to Call a Professional

Wi-Fi failures are almost never hardware faults on the robot. If all steps fail, contact Roborock support at roborock.com/support.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Wi-Fi to use my Roborock?

You need Wi-Fi for the initial setup and to access app features like scheduling, mapping, and room cleaning. After setup, if the robot loses Wi-Fi, it will continue to clean when you press the physical button on the robot. However, for the full experience (maps, scheduled cleans, room-specific cleaning), a stable Wi-Fi connection is required.

My Roborock was working on Wi-Fi and suddenly went offline — why?

Sudden disconnection is usually caused by a router reboot, a Wi-Fi password change, or the robot moving to a weak signal area. In the Roborock app, go to Devices > your robot > Wi-Fi settings to reconnect. If the router password changed, you will need to go through the setup process again for the robot.
