Not Charging
Shark Robot Vacuum
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Dirty or misaligned charging contacts are the most common reason a Shark robot vacuum will not charge. Clean the metal contacts on both the dock and the underside of the robot with a dry cloth, then re-seat the robot firmly on the dock.
Affected Models
- Shark IQ Robot
- Shark AI Robot
- Shark Matrix Robot
- Shark ION Robot
- Shark AV Series
Common Causes
- Dirty or corroded charging contacts on the dock or robot
- Dock not plugged in or power adapter loose
- Robot not properly seated on the dock
- Worn or failed battery
- Software fault preventing charge detection
How to Fix It
-
Clean the charging contacts.
Unplug the dock and wipe its two metal charging pins with a clean, dry cloth. Clean the matching contacts on the underside of the robot. Dirty contacts are the single most common cause of Shark charging failures.
-
Confirm the dock has power.
Plug the dock back in and check that the dock indicator light is on. Try a different power outlet to rule out a dead socket. Inspect the power cable for kinks or damage near the connector.
-
Re-seat the robot on the dock.
Place the robot on the dock and press it gently forward until the charging indicator activates. The robot should click lightly into place and the indicator light should change colour to confirm charging.
-
Reset the robot.
If charging still does not start, hold the Clean button for 10 seconds to perform a soft reset. Then re-place the robot on the dock and observe the charging indicator.
-
Check for battery failure.
If the robot charges briefly then drops to zero, or never shows a charge increase after several hours, the battery has likely failed. Battery life on Shark robots is typically 2–4 years with regular use. Contact Shark support for a replacement battery or unit.
When to Call a Professional
If the battery is more than 2–3 years old and no longer holds a charge after cleaning contacts and re-seating, it likely needs replacement. Contact Shark support or a certified repair centre.
