Arlo Doorbell Chime Not Ringing — How to Fix

What Does This Error Mean?

If your Arlo doorbell does not ring, check whether you have a wired mechanical chime, an Arlo Chime accessory, or only app notifications. Each has different requirements — wired chimes need a 16-24 V AC transformer.

Common Causes

Doorbell wired to a transformer below 16 V AC
Mechanical chime mode not selected in the Arlo app

Notification permissions disabled in the Arlo app
Arlo cloud subscription expired (some features require subscription)

How to Fix It

Verify the doorbell is online.

If the doorbell is offline, neither the chime nor app notifications will work. Resolve any offline status before troubleshooting the chime.
Check chime mode in the app.

In the Arlo app, open the doorbell settings and look for Chime Type or Indoor Chime. Select Mechanical (for wired chimes) or Digital depending on what you have. Wrong setting prevents the chime from triggering.
Check transformer voltage (wired chime).

Arlo Video Doorbells need 16-24 V AC for the wired chime to work properly. Older homes with 10-12 V transformers may need an upgrade. An electrician can swap the transformer.
Pair the Arlo Chime accessory if used.

If you bought a separate Arlo Chime, pair it with your Arlo system per the Chime's manual. It must be within range of the Smart Hub or directly connected to your Wi-Fi.
Verify notification permissions.

Phone Settings > Apps > Arlo > Notifications. Grant Arlo notification permission. Without it, you will not receive phone alerts when the doorbell is pressed.
