Doorbell Offline
Arlo Smart Doorbell
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
An Arlo doorbell offline means it has lost connection to the Arlo cloud or, on Wire-Free models, to the Arlo Smart Hub. Check the doorbell's battery, Wi-Fi signal, and Smart Hub status.
Affected Models
- Arlo Video Doorbell
- Arlo Wire-Free Video Doorbell
- Arlo Essential Video Doorbell
- Arlo Audio Doorbell
Common Causes
- Doorbell battery dead or weak (Wire-Free model)
- Smart Hub or base station offline (Wire-Free model)
- Weak Wi-Fi signal at the door
- Wi-Fi password changed and doorbell has stale credentials
- Doorbell firmware out of date or stuck
How to Fix It
-
Check the LED on the doorbell.
Arlo doorbells have a status LED. Solid blue = connected. Off or red = no connection. The exact pattern is in your model's manual.
-
Charge the doorbell (Wire-Free).
Wire-Free Arlo doorbells use a built-in rechargeable battery. Remove the doorbell from its mount and charge with the included USB cable. Low battery is the most common cause of offline status.
-
Check the Smart Hub or base station.
Some Arlo doorbells (older Wire-Free models) connect through an Arlo Smart Hub. If the Smart Hub is offline, the doorbell will be too. Verify the hub is plugged in and shows green LEDs.
-
Verify Wi-Fi signal at the door.
Wired Arlo doorbells connect directly to your home Wi-Fi. Weak signal at the door causes offline status. Add a Wi-Fi extender or relocate the router.
-
Re-add the doorbell.
If the Wi-Fi password changed or the doorbell remains offline after a battery charge, factory reset and re-pair. Long-press the doorbell reset button until the LED indicates reset, then add the doorbell fresh in the Arlo app.
When to Call a Professional
Arlo support can verify the doorbell's connectivity status and replace under warranty if faulty. Most offline issues are network or battery related and user-resolvable.
