Doorbell Offline

Blink Smart Doorbell

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

A Blink Video Doorbell offline means it cannot reach the Sync Module or directly the Wi-Fi. Check Sync Module status, doorbell battery level, and Wi-Fi signal at the door.

Affected Models

  • Blink Video Doorbell
  • Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Gen)

Common Causes

  • Sync Module offline (cannot reach cloud)
  • Doorbell battery dead or weak
  • Weak Wi-Fi signal at the door (battery mode requires Sync Module)
  • Doorbell wired to mechanical chime that interferes with operation
  • Wi-Fi password changed and doorbell has stale credentials

How to Fix It

  1. Check the Sync Module.

Verify the Sync Module is plugged in and shows solid green and blue LEDs. The Blink Video Doorbell connects through the Sync Module by default. If the Sync Module is offline, the doorbell will be too.

  2. Check doorbell battery.

In the Blink app, look at the doorbell's battery indicator. If low, replace the AA lithium batteries (Blink specifies lithium for cold weather and longest life).

  3. Check Wi-Fi signal at the door.

Stand at your front door with your phone and check Wi-Fi signal strength. Weak signal is the leading cause of doorbell offline status. Add a Wi-Fi range extender or move the router closer.

  4. Re-pair the doorbell.

If your Wi-Fi password changed, the doorbell has stale credentials. Delete the doorbell from the Blink app, factory reset (long-press the reset button), and add as a new device.

  5. Disconnect the wired chime if present.

If you wired the doorbell to your existing mechanical chime, the transformer can sometimes feed back current that confuses the doorbell. Disconnect the chime wires temporarily — if the doorbell stays online, the chime wiring is the cause.
