Live View Not Working

Blink Smart Doorbell

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Blink Video Doorbell live view problems are usually caused by weak Wi-Fi at the doorbell, a Sync Module that needs power-cycling, or low doorbell battery. Check signal first, then power-cycle the Sync Module.

Affected Models

  • Blink Video Doorbell
  • Blink Video Doorbell (2nd Gen)

Common Causes

  • Weak Wi-Fi signal between doorbell and Sync Module
  • Sync Module needs a power-cycle
  • Low doorbell battery (rechargeable models)
  • Phone on a slow or far-away network
  • Multiple devices accessing the doorbell at once

How to Fix It

  1. Check Wi-Fi signal at the door.

In the Blink app, the doorbell shows signal bars to the Sync Module. Less than 2 bars usually causes live view problems. Add a Wi-Fi extender between router and doorbell to improve signal.

  2. Power-cycle the Sync Module.

Unplug the Sync Module for 30 seconds, then plug back in. Wait 2 minutes for full reboot. This resolves most transient streaming issues.

  3. Replace doorbell batteries.

Low battery affects live view performance long before the doorbell goes offline. Replace AAs with fresh lithium cells. Lithium AAs perform far better in cold weather.

  4. Try live view from a different network.

If you are on a slow cellular connection, live view buffers or fails. Try over Wi-Fi on a fast connection. If it works there, the issue is your remote network speed, not the doorbell.

  5. Re-add the doorbell.

If live view persistently fails, factory reset and re-pair the doorbell. Delete from the app, long-press the reset button, then add as a new device.

When to Call a Professional

If live view fails consistently after Wi-Fi and Sync Module checks, Blink support can verify the doorbell's connectivity logs and replace if faulty.
