Doorbell Offline
Google Nest Smart Doorbell
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
A Nest Doorbell offline is usually caused by a WiFi dropout, a power interruption on wired models, or low battery on battery models. Restart the router, check the Google Home app for battery status, and press the doorbell button to wake it.
Affected Models
- Google Nest Doorbell (Wired, 2nd gen)
- Google Nest Doorbell (Battery)
Common Causes
- WiFi router restarted — doorbell lost its connection
- Low battery on battery-powered model
- Power wires loose or circuit breaker tripped on wired model
- WiFi network changed or password updated
- Google Home app needs updating
How to Fix It
-
Restart your router.
Unplug the router for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Wait 2 minutes for the network to fully restart. Check the Google Home app — the doorbell should reconnect automatically within a few minutes.
-
Check battery level for battery models.
Open the Google Home app, tap the doorbell, and check the battery percentage. The Nest Doorbell (Battery) goes offline when the battery is critically low. Charge it using the USB-C cable included in the box.
-
Check the power supply for wired models.
For the Nest Doorbell Wired, confirm the doorbell wires are securely connected. Check that the circuit breaker for the doorbell circuit has not tripped. The Nest Doorbell Wired requires 16–24V AC at a minimum of 10 VA.
-
Check WiFi in the Google Home app.
Open Google Home, tap the doorbell, then Settings > WiFi. If the app shows a WiFi error, tap the reconnect option and follow the on-screen steps to re-enter your network credentials.
-
Restart the Nest Doorbell.
Press and hold the button on the back of the doorbell for 5 seconds until it restarts. For wired models, briefly trip the circuit breaker to power-cycle it. Wait 60 seconds after restart and check the app.
