Doorbell Not Ringing
Ring Smart Doorbell
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
If your Ring doorbell button is pressed but nothing rings, check the in-app chime volume, confirm the Ring Chime is online, and verify the doorbell is not in Do Not Disturb mode.
Affected Models
- Ring Video Doorbell 4
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
- Ring Video Doorbell Wired
- Ring Video Doorbell 3
- Ring Video Doorbell Elite
Common Causes
- In-app doorbell tone or chime volume set to zero
- Ring Chime device offline or unplugged
- Do Not Disturb mode active in the Ring app
- Existing mechanical doorbell wiring incompatible with Ring Wired
- Phone notification permissions disabled
How to Fix It
-
Check the in-app chime settings.
Open the Ring app, tap the doorbell, and go to Device Settings > In-Home Chime Settings. Confirm the chime volume is not set to zero and that the Ring Chime is selected as the chime device.
-
Check Do Not Disturb.
In the Ring app, go to Account > Do Not Disturb. If Do Not Disturb is active, chimes and notifications are silenced. Disable it and test by pressing the doorbell button.
-
Check the Ring Chime is powered.
If you use a Ring Chime or Chime Pro, confirm it is plugged in and shows online in the Ring app. Unplug it for 10 seconds and plug it back in to reboot. Check that it is linked to your doorbell under Linked Devices.
-
Test the existing mechanical chime wiring.
For Ring wired models connected to an existing doorbell chime, confirm the wiring type is set correctly in the Ring app under In-Home Chime Settings. Incorrect wiring type selection is a common reason wired chimes do not ring.
-
Enable phone notifications as a backup.
In the Ring app, go to Device Settings > Notification Settings and enable Push Notifications. Even without a physical chime, your phone will alert you whenever the button is pressed.
