myQ Offline
Chamberlain Garage Door Opener
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
The myQ app showing your garage door as Offline means the myQ hub or smart garage controller has lost its WiFi connection. The garage door itself still works normally from the wall button and remotes. Restarting the hub and confirming the WiFi network is 2.4 GHz fixes most offline issues.
Affected Models
- Chamberlain myQ Smart Garage Hub
- Chamberlain myQ-compatible openers (821LM, 828LM)
- LiftMaster myQ openers
Common Causes
- WiFi password was changed and the hub is connecting to the old password
- Router was replaced or reset, changing the network settings
- myQ hub only supports 2.4 GHz WiFi — 5 GHz networks are not compatible
- Hub is too far from the router and receives a weak signal in the garage
- Power cut to the hub reset its connection settings
How to Fix It
-
Check the hub's LED. A blinking yellow or amber LED means the hub is not connected to WiFi. A solid blue or green LED means it is online.
If the LED is blinking, the hub needs to be reconnected to WiFi through the myQ app.
-
Unplug the myQ hub from its power outlet, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. Check the myQ app after 2 minutes.
A simple power cycle clears temporary connection errors and forces the hub to re-establish its WiFi link.
-
If the hub stays offline after a restart, reconnect it via the myQ app. Open the app, go to your device, tap the settings gear, and select Connect to WiFi. Ensure you select the 2.4 GHz network.
The myQ hub does not support 5 GHz WiFi. If your router uses the same name for both bands, temporarily connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz band before starting the reconnection process.
-
If the hub is in the garage and the signal is weak, consider adding a WiFi range extender between the router and the garage, or moving the router closer.
Concrete walls and metal garage doors block WiFi signals significantly. A signal strength below -70 dBm causes frequent disconnections.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the garage door still work when myQ shows offline?
Yes — the garage door operates completely normally from the wall button, keypad, and remote controls. myQ offline only means you cannot control or monitor the door through the smartphone app.
How far can the myQ hub be from the router?
In a typical home, the myQ hub works reliably within about 10 metres (30 feet) of the router with no major obstructions. Garage walls and metalwork reduce this range significantly — a WiFi extender in the garage greatly improves reliability.
