Program Fail

Galcon Smart Irrigation Controller

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

If your Galcon irrigation programme is set up but watering is not starting at the scheduled time, the most common causes are an incorrect clock time on the controller, a programme that has been turned off, or a rain sensor holding the system back.

Affected Models

  • Galcon 9001
  • Galcon 8054
  • Galcon PC-48
  • Galcon Bluetooth BL-18
  • Galcon G-Pro Series

Common Causes

  • Controller clock shows wrong time (AM/PM error, or battery replacement reset the clock)
  • Programme is set to 'Off' or watering days are set to 0 days
  • Rain sensor is active and has suspended watering
  • Controller is in Manual Off or System Off mode
  • Programme start time and current time are out of sync after a battery change

How to Fix It

  1. Check the controller clock

Verify the current time and AM/PM setting on the controller. An AM/PM error is very common — programmes set for 6:00 AM will not run if the clock thinks it is 6:00 PM.

  2. Verify the programme is enabled

Open the programme settings and confirm the programme is set to Active/On and that at least one watering day is selected.

  3. Check the rain sensor

If a rain/weather sensor is connected, check whether it is currently holding the system in 'bypass' or 'pause' mode. Many sensors have an override button.

  4. Check System Mode

Make sure the controller is not set to Manual-Off or All-Off mode. These modes override all programmed schedules.

  5. Re-enter the schedule

If the programme appears correct but still does not run, delete it and create a new one from scratch. A corrupted programme entry can sometimes prevent execution.

When to Call a Professional

No — programme and clock issues are always user-configurable.

Galcon Programme Not Starting

When a Galcon irrigation schedule fails to trigger, the controller itself is almost always fine — the problem is a configuration error that prevents the programme from executing.

The Most Common Culprit: AM/PM

Irrigation systems are typically set to water early morning. If the clock shows 6:00 PM when you mean 6:00 AM (or vice versa), the programme will run at the wrong time of day — or appear to never run at all.

Always double-check the AM/PM setting after a battery replacement, since many Galcon models reset the clock when batteries are removed.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Galcon shows the correct time but still does not start watering. Why?

Check that the programme's start time is not being blocked by the rain sensor, that the programme has at least one day selected, and that the controller is not in a system-off mode. Also verify the zones in the programme each have a non-zero run time.

The Galcon app shows the programme is running but nothing waters. Why?

If the app shows the schedule as active but no physical watering occurs, the issue is downstream of the controller — either the wiring to the valve, or the valve itself. See the No Water and Valve Fault pages.
