Device Offline

Ring Smart Doorbell / Camera

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Your Ring device shows 'Offline' in the app — it has lost its connection. This usually means a Wi-Fi issue or a power problem at the device. Follow the steps below to bring it back online.

Affected Models

  • Ring Video Doorbell 4
  • Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
  • Ring Video Doorbell Wired
  • Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus

Common Causes

  • Your home Wi-Fi went down or restarted with a new IP address
  • The device lost power — battery died or wired connection failed
  • Your Wi-Fi password was changed and Ring was not updated
  • The Ring device is too far from the router
  • A temporary Ring server outage is reporting devices as offline

How to Fix It

  1. Check your home internet — make sure other devices can access the web.

If your internet is down, fix that first. Ring cannot connect without an active internet connection.

  2. Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.

Wait 2 minutes, then check if Ring comes back online in the app.

  3. If your Ring runs on battery, check the battery level in the Ring app under 'Device Health'.

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons Ring goes offline. Recharge using the included cable.

  4. If your Ring is wired, check the breaker box to make sure the doorbell circuit is on.

Also check for any loose wires at the doorbell itself.

  5. In the Ring app, tap your device > 'Device Health' > 'Reconnect to Wi-Fi' if needed.

This walks you through reconnecting Ring to your network from scratch.

When to Call a Professional

If your doorbell is wired and won't come back online after checking all connections, contact an electrician. A faulty transformer or broken wire may be cutting power to the device.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Ring go offline at the same time every day?

Some routers reboot on a schedule, which temporarily drops all connected devices. Check your router settings for a scheduled reboot. You can also disable this feature if it's not needed.

Can Ring go offline if the battery is low but not dead?

Yes — Ring devices will go offline before the battery fully drains. At around 10-20% battery, the device may stop connecting to save power. Recharge as soon as the app warns you about a low battery.

Ring says offline but the light is blinking. What does that mean?

A blinking light means the device has power but is not connected to Wi-Fi. Open the Ring app and use 'Reconnect to Wi-Fi' in Device Health. This usually fixes it within a few minutes.
