Not Connecting
Ring Smart Doorbell
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Your Ring doorbell can't reach your Wi-Fi network. This usually means a password change, a weak signal, or a router issue. Follow the steps below to reconnect it.
Affected Models
- Ring Video Doorbell 4
- Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
- Ring Video Doorbell Wired
- Ring Video Doorbell 3 Plus
Common Causes
- Your Wi-Fi password was recently changed
- The doorbell is too far from the router
- Your router is set to 5 GHz only — Ring prefers 2.4 GHz
- The doorbell firmware needs an update
- A temporary network glitch is blocking the connection
How to Fix It
-
Open the Ring app, tap your doorbell, then tap 'Device Health'.
Check if it says 'Offline' or shows a low signal strength.
-
Tap 'Reconnect to Wi-Fi' and follow the in-app setup steps.
You will need your Wi-Fi password ready.
-
Move your router closer to the door, or add a Ring Chime Pro as a Wi-Fi extender.
Ring recommends a signal strength (RSSI) of -60 or better.
-
Log into your router and make sure 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi is enabled.
Ring devices work best on 2.4 GHz. Some routers label it separately from 5 GHz.
-
Restart your router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
Wait 2 minutes for your network to fully come back online before reconnecting Ring.
When to Call a Professional
If your doorbell repeatedly fails to connect after reinstalling it, contact Ring Support. A hardware fault may require a replacement unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Ring doorbell keep losing Wi-Fi connection?
Frequent disconnections usually mean a weak signal. Try moving your router closer, or add a Ring Chime Pro to extend coverage. Also check that your router is not rebooting on a schedule.
Does Ring work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Most Ring doorbells only support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. The Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 supports both bands. If your router only broadcasts 5 GHz, your doorbell will not connect.
I changed my Wi-Fi password. How do I update Ring?
Open the Ring app and tap your device. Tap 'Device Health', then 'Reconnect to Wi-Fi'. Enter your new password when prompted.
