1101
Sonos Smart Speaker
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
Error 1101 means your Sonos speaker encountered a playback error and cannot play the track or stream you requested. This is usually caused by a problem with the streaming service, an expired music service login, or a corrupted queue entry. Clearing the queue and reconnecting your music service typically fixes it right away.
Affected Models
- Sonos One
- Sonos Arc
- Sonos Beam
- Sonos Move
- Sonos Era 100
Common Causes
- Music service (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) login session has expired
- The specific track or album is unavailable or has been removed from the streaming service
- Sonos app queue contains a corrupted or invalid entry
- Audio format of the source file is not supported by the speaker
- Temporary connectivity drop between the speaker and the streaming service
How to Fix It
-
Clear the current queue in the Sonos app: tap the queue icon, then select Clear Queue.
A single corrupted track entry in the queue can cause Error 1101 on every subsequent play attempt — clearing it solves this instantly.
-
In the Sonos app, go to Settings > Services & Voice > [your music service] > Sign Out, then sign back in.
Music service login tokens expire periodically; signing out and back in refreshes the authentication and clears Error 1101 caused by expired credentials.
-
Try playing a different song or a different genre to see if the error is tied to one specific track.
If only one track triggers the error, it may have been removed from the streaming service or have a regional restriction — simply skip it.
-
Power-cycle your Sonos speaker by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and try again.
A power cycle clears any temporary audio buffer or network state that may be blocking playback.
-
Check your internet connection speed — streaming audio requires at least 1–2 Mbps sustained; run a speed test on your phone while near the speaker.
A very slow or congested connection can prevent the speaker from buffering audio fast enough, triggering Error 1101.
When to Call a Professional
If Error 1101 appears consistently across all music services and all tracks, the speaker's audio processing may be faulty. Contact Sonos Support at support.sonos.com with your speaker's serial number and a description of when the error occurs. Under warranty, Sonos typically replaces hardware faults at no cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Error 1101 mean the song is deleted from my streaming service?
It can — but it is not always the cause. Error 1101 covers a range of playback failures, and an expired login or network hiccup is far more common than a removed track.
Why does Error 1101 only happen on one specific streaming service?
Each music service has its own authentication and streaming protocol in Sonos. If only one service shows the error, that service's login has most likely expired — signing out and back in to just that service will fix it.
Will uninstalling and reinstalling the Sonos app help?
Sometimes — reinstalling the app clears cached credentials and service tokens that may have become corrupted. Try the queue and sign-out steps first, but reinstalling is a reasonable next step if those do not work.
