Keypad Not Responding
Yale Smart Lock
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
A Yale keypad that does not respond usually has dead or weak batteries, a temporary lockout from too many wrong PIN attempts, or moisture inside the keypad. Replace batteries first.
Affected Models
- Yale Assure Lock
- Yale Assure Lock 2
- Yale Linus Smart Lock
- Yale Real Living Touchscreen
- Yale Conexis L1
Common Causes
- Dead or weak batteries (most common)
- Temporary lockout from too many wrong PIN attempts (5+ usually)
- Moisture or condensation inside the keypad
- Keypad ribbon cable disconnected internally
- Failed touchscreen panel
How to Fix It
-
Replace the batteries.
Remove the battery cover (typically inside the door) and replace all batteries with fresh name-brand alkaline AAs. Low voltage is the leading cause of unresponsive keypads even when the indicator is not yet red.
-
Wait out a possible lockout.
Yale locks lock out after multiple wrong PINs (typically 5 attempts). The lockout lasts 60 seconds to 3 minutes depending on the model. Wait at least 5 minutes and try again with the correct PIN.
-
Check for moisture.
If your lock is exposed to weather and not under a porch, water can intrude over time. Remove the lock from the door and let it dry in a warm place for 24 hours. Then test indoors before reinstalling.
-
Wake the keypad correctly.
On Yale Assure 2 and similar models, you must press the wake button or place a palm on the keypad first. Review your model's manual for the correct wake gesture.
-
Reset the lock.
If the keypad still does not respond, reset the lock to factory defaults. The reset procedure varies by model — check your manual. After reset, re-pair with the Yale app.
