Battery Draining Fast
Oura Smart Ring
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Oura Ring typically lasts 5–8 days per charge. If it is dying faster, the most common causes are SpO2 monitoring enabled overnight, firmware issues, or a degraded battery after 2+ years of use. Disabling continuous SpO2 is the fastest way to recover battery life.
Affected Models
- Oura Ring 4
- Oura Ring 3
- Oura Ring 3 Heritage
- Oura Ring 3 Horizon
Common Causes
- Blood Oxygen (SpO2) monitoring enabled — this is the single biggest battery drain
- Extremely active lifestyle requiring more sensor polling
- Ring is very old (2+ years) with a naturally degraded battery
- Firmware bug causing higher than normal power consumption
- Phone is frequently disconnecting and reconnecting Bluetooth, causing the ring to search constantly
How to Fix It
-
Turn off Blood Oxygen (SpO2) monitoring if you do not need it: Settings > Ring Settings > Blood Oxygen > Off.
SpO2 monitoring uses the red and infrared LEDs constantly throughout the night. Disabling it alone often recovers 2–3 extra days of battery life.
-
Update the ring firmware to the latest version.
Firmware updates frequently include power management improvements. An older firmware version may have a bug that keeps the processor or sensors active when they should be sleeping.
-
Keep your phone's Bluetooth stable — do not repeatedly turn Bluetooth off and on throughout the day.
Every time the Bluetooth connection drops and re-establishes, the ring's radio module works harder to reconnect. Keeping a stable, consistent Bluetooth connection reduces this drain.
-
Charge the ring daily if battery life is below 3 days, to avoid deep discharge cycles.
Lithium batteries in small wearables degrade faster when frequently run to zero. Topping up every day or two preserves long-term battery health.
When to Call a Professional
If your ring is less than 1 year old and gets less than 2 days of battery life despite turning off SpO2, contact Oura Support. A significant battery performance drop in a new ring is covered under warranty.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many years does Oura Ring battery last before it needs replacing?
Oura Ring batteries are not user-replaceable. Most Oura rings maintain good battery health for 2–3 years, after which capacity naturally degrades. If your ring is old and the battery life has become unacceptably short, contact Oura Support about replacement options.
Does wearing the ring 24/7 drain the battery faster?
The ring is designed for 24/7 wear — that is its intended use. Battery life is rated based on normal continuous wear. The biggest factor is which features are enabled (especially SpO2), not whether you wear it continuously.
