Daytime HR Missing

Oura Smart Ring

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Oura measures heart rate continuously, but daytime readings depend on the ring being worn and having clean sensor contact. If your daytime HR graph shows gaps, the ring was likely not worn, or the sensor contact was poor during those hours.

Affected Models

  • Oura Ring 4
  • Oura Ring 3
  • Oura Ring 3 Heritage
  • Oura Ring 3 Horizon

Common Causes

  • Ring was removed during part of the day
  • Ring rotated so sensor is not touching skin
  • Cold hands reducing blood flow to the finger
  • Oura Ring 3 membership lapsed — daytime HR trend is a premium feature
  • App not synced — daytime HR is only visible after syncing

How to Fix It

  1. Wear the ring consistently throughout the day without removing it.

Every gap in the ring's wear creates a gap in the HR graph. Oura cannot estimate heart rate during periods when the ring is off.

  2. Make sure the sensor surface (inside of ring) is against your skin and not rotated to the top of your finger.

Oura Ring should have the flat/smooth inner surface facing your palm side of the finger. If it rotates to the top, the sensor faces away from skin.

  3. Sync the app to see today's daytime heart rate data.

Daytime HR data is transferred to the app during each sync. If you have not synced since this morning, today's daytime readings will not yet appear.

  4. Check the 'Heart Rate' section in the app under Today or the dedicated Heart Rate view for the continuous graph.

The main Home screen shows a summary. To see the detailed daytime HR graph with gaps highlighted, tap into the Heart Rate metric view.

When to Call a Professional

Missing daytime HR data is not a medical emergency. If you notice your heart rate is consistently very high or irregular when you do see readings, discuss this with your doctor.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does Oura Ring measure heart rate during the day?

During the day, Oura measures heart rate approximately every 5 minutes when you are inactive. During detected activity, it measures more frequently. At night during sleep, it measures continuously.

Why does daytime heart rate appear blank but sleep heart rate is recorded?

Sleep heart rate is measured continuously and is critical for Oura's core scores, so it is prioritized. Daytime spot measurements are lower priority and require the ring to have clean, consistent skin contact. If the ring was worn loosely or removed during the day, sleep readings can still be perfect while daytime shows gaps.
