Activity Not Tracking
Samsung Smart Ring
Severity: MinorWhat Does This Error Mean?
Activity not tracking is usually because the ring was not worn, auto-workout detection is off, or the data has not synced yet. Enable auto-detect workouts in Samsung Health and sync manually after exercise.
Affected Models
- Samsung Galaxy Ring
- all sizes
Common Causes
- Ring was not worn during the activity
- Auto workout detection is disabled in Samsung Health
- Activity is stationary (strength training, cycling) and not auto-detected
- Data has not synced to Samsung Health app yet
- Ring battery died during the activity
How to Fix It
-
Open Samsung Health and pull down to force a sync after your workout.
Activity data stored in the ring uploads during sync. Immediately after a workout, open Samsung Health and wait for it to pull data from the ring.
-
Enable Auto Detect Workouts in Samsung Health: More > Settings > Auto Detect Workouts.
Auto-detection is not enabled by default on all Samsung Health versions. Turn it on so the ring can automatically recognize walks, runs, and other movement-heavy activities.
-
For gym workouts, start a manual workout session in Samsung Health before you begin.
Weight lifting, yoga, and stationary machines involve little arm movement. The ring cannot reliably auto-detect these. Start a timed session in Samsung Health to ensure heart rate is recorded.
-
Check the ring battery before long workout sessions.
A ring that runs out of power mid-workout stops recording. The Galaxy Ring lasts about 7 days, but check the level in Galaxy Wearable before starting a long session.
When to Call a Professional
Activity tracking issues do not require professional service. If accurate activity tracking is critical for a health program, discuss dedicated fitness device options with your doctor or physical therapist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Samsung Galaxy Ring track swimming?
Yes — the Galaxy Ring is water-resistant to 10 ATM and can be worn while swimming. However, optical heart rate in water is less accurate than on dry land due to light refraction. Swimming will register as activity, but heart rate data during swimming may be less reliable.
Can Samsung Galaxy Ring track calories burned?
Yes — Samsung Health estimates calories burned based on your heart rate, weight, age, and activity level. This is an estimate, not a precise measurement. Calorie accuracy is best during sustained aerobic activities like walking and running.
