Workout Not Detected
Ultrahuman Smart Ring
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
The Ultrahuman Ring detects workouts automatically based on heart rate elevation and movement patterns. If a workout is missed, log it manually in the app or check that the ring was worn correctly on your index or middle finger with a snug fit.
Affected Models
- Ultrahuman Ring Air
Common Causes
- Exercise did not elevate heart rate enough to trigger automatic detection
- Ring worn too loosely — heart rate sensor missed the workout
- Activity type not yet in Ultrahuman detection library (e.g. yoga, pilates)
- Ring not synced after workout — data on ring but not yet in app
- Firmware out of date with older workout detection algorithm
How to Fix It
-
Log the workout manually in the Ultrahuman app if automatic detection missed it.
Open the Ultrahuman app, go to the Movement section, and tap the + icon to add a workout. Select the activity type, enter the start time and duration, and save. This ensures the session counts toward your Movement Score.
-
Sync the ring with the app immediately after your workout.
Open the Ultrahuman app and bring the ring near your phone. The app pulls workout data from the ring during sync — if you check the app before syncing, the workout will appear to be missing.
-
Make sure the ring fits snugly during exercise.
The ring must maintain firm contact with your finger throughout the workout for accurate heart rate tracking. If the ring rotates or slips during exercise, heart rate data will have gaps, preventing automatic workout detection.
-
Wear the ring on your index or middle finger.
Ultrahuman recommends the index or middle finger for best sensor contact. The pinky and ring finger tend to produce more signal noise, especially during high-intensity exercise.
-
Update the ring firmware in the Ultrahuman app.
Go to Ultrahuman app > Device > Firmware Update and install any available update. Workout detection logic improves with firmware updates.
Frequently Asked Questions
What types of exercise does Ultrahuman Ring auto-detect?
Ultrahuman auto-detects high-intensity activities that significantly elevate heart rate — running, cycling, HIIT, strength training. Low-intensity activities like walking, yoga, and stretching may need to be logged manually.
Is there a minimum workout duration for auto-detection?
Ultrahuman typically requires at least 10 minutes of sustained elevated heart rate before a session is automatically categorised as a workout. Shorter sessions may need to be logged manually.
