Shopping List Not Syncing

Amazon Echo Smart Speaker

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Alexa shopping list not syncing is usually caused by the Alexa app not being refreshed, a third-party list app connected to Alexa having a broken sync, or the Echo being temporarily offline when items were added. Pull to refresh the list in the Alexa app first.

Affected Models

  • Amazon Echo
  • Amazon Echo Dot
  • Amazon Echo Show
  • Amazon Echo Pop
  • All Amazon Echo models

Common Causes

  • Alexa app not refreshed — list updates require a manual pull-to-refresh on some versions
  • Third-party list app sync broken — AnyList, OurGroceries, or Google Keep connections can desync
  • Echo was offline when items were added — some items may not have synced to the cloud
  • Multiple Alexa accounts in the household — items added on one account are not visible on another
  • Alexa list feature replaced by a connected app that is not working

How to Fix It

  1. Pull to refresh the list in the Alexa app.

Open the Alexa app → Lists & Notes → Shopping List. Pull down on the list screen to force a refresh from the cloud. The Alexa app does not always update automatically — a manual refresh retrieves the latest list state from Amazon's servers.

  2. Check for a connected third-party list app.

If you have linked Alexa to AnyList, Google Keep, OurGroceries, or another shopping app, the sync goes through that app. In the Alexa app → More → Settings → Lists, check which app is set as the default list provider. If a third-party app is causing sync issues, switch back to Alexa's native list temporarily to diagnose.

  3. Verify all household members use the same Amazon account.

Alexa shopping lists are per Amazon account. If someone in the household has their own Amazon account set up on a different Echo, their list is separate. To share a list, all devices should be on the same account, or use an Amazon Household with shared lists enabled.

  4. Restart the Echo.

Unplug the Echo for 30 seconds and plug it back in. Wait for it to reconnect to Wi-Fi before adding items. Items added while the Echo is offline are queued — a restart ensures the queue is flushed to the cloud.

  5. Sign out and back in to the Alexa app.

In the Alexa app → More → Settings → Account Settings → Sign Out. Sign back in with your Amazon credentials. This forces a full re-sync of your lists and clears any stale cache that may be showing an outdated list version.

When to Call a Professional

Shopping list sync is a cloud feature. If items consistently fail to appear after refreshing, contact Amazon support — there may be an account-specific issue with list storage.
