Clock Wrong Time

Google Nest Smart Speaker

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Google Nest showing the wrong time is almost always caused by the device having the wrong time zone set in the Google Home app. Time on Google Nest devices is synchronised from Google's servers — the time itself is always correct, but it is displayed in whichever time zone is configured for that device.

Affected Models

  • Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen)
  • Google Nest Hub Max
  • Google Nest Mini (displaying time via app)
  • Google Home (displaying time via app)

Common Causes

  • Wrong time zone set for the device in the Google Home app
  • Home address in Google Home set to a different time zone than your actual location
  • Daylight Saving Time not applied — device time zone not set to observe DST
  • Device just connected to Wi-Fi and is still syncing the clock from Google's time server
  • Google account address is in a different country than the physical device location

How to Fix It

  1. Check the time zone in the Google Home app.

Open the Google Home app → tap your home (house icon) → Settings → Home Info. Check the address listed. The time zone is derived from the home address. If the address is wrong, update it to your correct location.

  2. Check the device-specific time zone.

In the Google Home app → tap the specific Nest display → gear icon (Settings) → Device Information. Check if a time zone override is set. Remove any override to let the device use the home address time zone.

  3. Confirm the home address is correct.

In the Google Home app → House icon → Settings → Home Info → Address. Enter your full, accurate address. Google uses this to determine your time zone, DST rules, local weather, and local search results.

  4. Restart the device.

Unplug the Nest Hub or Nest Mini from power for 10 seconds and plug it back in. After reconnecting to Wi-Fi, it syncs the time from Google's servers. Allow 2 minutes for the clock to update.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Google Nest show a time 1 hour ahead or behind?

A one-hour offset almost always means Daylight Saving Time is not being applied correctly. Check that the home address in Google Home is accurate — Google auto-applies DST based on the address location. A wrong country or region in the address will use wrong DST rules.

Can I manually set the clock on a Google Nest device?

No — the time is always synchronised automatically from Google's servers based on your configured time zone. There is no manual clock entry. To change the displayed time, change the time zone by updating the home address in the Google Home app.
