Reminders Not Working / Not Announcing
Google Nest Smart Speaker
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Google Nest reminders not announcing is most often caused by the reminder not being linked to the correct Google account or the Nest device not being set as the reminder announcement device. Open Google Home app → your Nest device → settings and confirm your Google account is linked.
Affected Models
- Google Nest Mini
- Google Nest Audio
- Google Nest Hub
- Google Nest Hub Max
- All Google Nest smart speaker models
Common Causes
- Reminder saved to a different Google account than the one linked to the Nest device
- Personal results disabled on the Nest device — reminders require Personal results to be turned on
- Nest device not set as the target for reminder announcements — reminder is saved but no device to announce it
- Volume at zero when the reminder fires — announcement is silent
- Reminder set for the wrong time or date due to a misheard command
How to Fix It
-
Enable Personal results on the Nest device.
Open the Google Home app → select your Nest device → Settings → Recognition & personalization. Enable Personal results — this allows the Nest speaker to announce reminders, access your calendar, and recognize your voice. Without Personal results, reminders are stored but cannot be announced through the device.
-
Link your Google account to the Nest device.
In the Google Home app, confirm the Google account that owns your reminders is linked to the Nest device. Go to Settings → Google Assistant → Linked account and verify it matches the account where you set the reminder. Reminders set on a personal Gmail account will not announce on a device linked to a different account.
-
Verify the reminder exists in Google Calendar or Assistant.
Open the Google app or Google Calendar on your phone and check that the reminder appears. Say 'Hey Google, show my reminders' to the Nest device — it will list all upcoming reminders for the linked account. If the reminder is not listed, it was not saved — set it again clearly: 'Hey Google, remind me to take medication at 8 PM every day.'
-
Check the speaker volume and Do Not Disturb.
Say 'Hey Google, set volume to 5' and 'Hey Google, turn off Do Not Disturb' before the next expected reminder. Reminders announce at the device's current volume — zero volume means a silent announcement. Do Not Disturb may also suppress reminder announcements depending on the device firmware version.
-
Set the target device for the reminder.
When setting a reminder, you can specify which device should announce it: 'Hey Google, remind me on the kitchen speaker to check the oven at 6 PM.' If you do not specify a device, Google may choose any linked device — which may not be where you expect to hear it. For household reminders, use Google Home Broadcast instead: 'Hey Google, broadcast that dinner is ready.'
