Ambilight Not Working
Philips Smart TV
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Philips Ambilight that has stopped working is almost always switched off in the settings or has been toggled off by accidental button press. Press the Ambilight button on the remote to cycle through modes (Follow Video, Follow Audio, Lounge Light, Off). If the button does nothing, go to Settings > Ambilight > Ambilight Style and enable it from there.
Affected Models
- Philips Ambilight TV 4K UHD Series
- Philips Ambilight OLED Series
- Philips The One with Ambilight
Common Causes
- Ambilight has been switched off via the remote button or settings menu
- Software crash has disabled the Ambilight LED controller
- Ambilight+Hue is configured but the Hue bridge has disconnected
- One or more LED strips have hardware failure (partial Ambilight failure)
How to Fix It
-
Press the Ambilight button on the remote and cycle through the modes. If the Ambilight LEDs come on in any mode, the issue was simply that it was switched off or set to a low-visibility mode.
Lounge Light mode shows a soft static glow — it can look like Ambilight is off if the room is bright.
-
If the button does nothing, go to Settings > Ambilight > Ambilight Style and select Follow Video. Confirm the change.
A software crash can disable the Ambilight service without affecting the rest of the TV. Navigating to the setting and re-enabling it restarts the Ambilight processor.
-
If Ambilight+Hue lights are not syncing, go to Settings > Ambilight > Ambilight+Hue > Configure and redo the Hue bridge link.
If your Hue bridge IP address has changed (after a router restart), the TV loses the link and needs to re-discover the bridge.
-
Perform a soft reset: hold the power button on the TV for 10 seconds. A hard restart clears software faults affecting the Ambilight service.
-
If only part of the Ambilight LEDs work (for example the left side works but the right side does not), this indicates LED strip hardware failure. Contact Philips support — this requires a service repair.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Philips Ambilight colors look wrong or washed out — how do I fix that?
Go to Settings > Ambilight > Ambilight Settings > Ambilight Brightness and Saturation and increase both values. Also check that the Ambilight Style is set to Follow Video (not Follow Colour or a custom static colour), which gives the most dynamic and accurate color matching.
