WiFi Not Connecting / Network Connection Error
Sony Smart TV
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Sony Bravia WiFi not connecting is most commonly caused by incorrect WiFi credentials, the router not visible to the TV, or a software glitch. Start by restarting both the TV and the router — this resolves the majority of WiFi connection failures.
Affected Models
- Sony Bravia A80/A90 (OLED)
- Sony Bravia X90/X95 (LED)
- Sony Bravia X80/X85 (LED)
- Sony Bravia KD series
- Sony Bravia XR series
Common Causes
- Router restarted and TV lost the connection profile — requires re-entering WiFi credentials
- TV too far from the router — weak signal causes connection failures and drops
- Router using 5 GHz only — older Sony Bravia models only support 2.4 GHz
- Software glitch in the Sony Bravia network stack
- DNS or IP address conflict on the home network
How to Fix It
-
Restart the TV and the router.
Power off the Sony Bravia, unplug it from the wall, and wait 60 seconds. Simultaneously restart the WiFi router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Plug the router back in and wait for it to fully reconnect to the internet before powering the Sony Bravia back on. Then go to Settings → Network → WiFi and reconnect.
-
Forget and re-add the WiFi network.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet → WiFi on the Sony Bravia. Select the connected network and choose Forget. Re-enter the WiFi password from scratch — the password may have changed if the router was recently reset. Ensure the password is entered exactly, including uppercase letters and special characters.
-
Check whether 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is the issue.
Older Sony Bravia models (pre-2018) may not support the 5 GHz WiFi band. If the router broadcasts separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, try connecting the TV to the 2.4 GHz network (usually labeled with '2.4G' or '24' at the end of the network name). The 2.4 GHz band also penetrates walls better — use it if the TV is far from the router.
-
Set a manual DNS address.
DNS resolution failures can prevent the Sony Bravia from connecting even when it is associated with the WiFi. Go to Settings → Network & Internet → WiFi → the connected network → IP Settings → change DHCP to Static. Set DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4 (Google's public DNS). This bypasses DNS issues from the internet provider or router.
-
Perform a network settings reset.
Go to Settings → System → About → Reset → Reset Network Settings on the Sony Bravia. This clears all saved WiFi passwords and network settings without affecting app data or preferences. After the reset, reconnect to WiFi from scratch — this often resolves persistent connection failures caused by a corrupted network profile.
When to Call a Professional
If the Sony Bravia detects the network but consistently fails to connect even after a factory reset, the WiFi module in the TV may have failed. Contact Sony support or a TV repair specialist.
