Remote Not Working / Not Pairing
TCL Roku TV
Severity: ModerateWhat Does This Error Mean?
TCL Roku TV remote not working is usually caused by dead batteries, the remote needing re-pairing, or IR line-of-sight being blocked. Replace batteries first — this fixes most cases.
Affected Models
- TCL 4-Series
- TCL 5-Series
- TCL 6-Series
- TCL 8-Series
- All TCL Roku TVs
Common Causes
- Remote batteries dead or low
- Enhanced remote lost Bluetooth pairing
- IR remote blocked by an object
- Remote hardware failure
- TV needs restarting
How to Fix It
-
Replace the batteries.
This is the #1 fix. Use fresh alkaline batteries — not rechargeable ones (they are 1.2V instead of 1.5V).
-
For Enhanced (voice) remotes: re-pair via the pairing button.
Remove batteries, unplug TV for 10 seconds, plug TV in. When the home screen appears, insert batteries and hold the pairing button (in the battery compartment) for 5 seconds.
-
For IR (simple) remotes: check line of sight.
IR remotes need a clear path to the TV's sensor. Remove anything blocking the bottom of the TV screen.
-
Use the Roku app as a temporary remote.
Download the Roku app on your phone. It works as a full remote over WiFi while you fix the physical remote.
