WiFi Not Connecting / Network Error
Toshiba Smart TV
Severity:What Does This Error Mean?
Toshiba Fire TV WiFi not connecting is most often caused by an incorrect WiFi password, the TV being too far from the router, or a Fire TV software glitch. Restart both the TV and the router first — this fixes most Toshiba Fire TV WiFi connection failures.
Affected Models
- Toshiba Fire TV (C350, C450, M550 series)
- Toshiba Smart TV (V35 series)
- Toshiba UHD TV
Common Causes
- Incorrect WiFi password
- TV out of range of the router
- Router changed since last connection — stored credentials no longer valid
- Fire TV software glitch in the network stack
- DNS resolution failure preventing internet access even when connected to WiFi
How to Fix It
-
Restart the TV and router.
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Restart on the Toshiba Fire TV. Simultaneously restart the WiFi router by unplugging it for 30 seconds. Wait for the router to fully reconnect before the TV finishes restarting — this resolves most temporary WiFi connection failures.
-
Forget and reconnect to the WiFi network.
Go to Settings → Network on the Toshiba Fire TV. Select the saved network and choose Forget Network. Search for the network again and enter the WiFi password carefully — the password is case-sensitive and easy to mistype.
-
Move the TV closer to the router.
Toshiba Fire TVs have a moderate WiFi range — walls and floors significantly reduce signal strength. If possible, test the TV in the same room as the router to confirm WiFi works at close range. If it only connects close to the router, consider a WiFi range extender or mesh node near the TV.
-
Set a custom DNS address.
Go to Settings → Network → and select the connected WiFi network → Advanced → change to a static IP if available. Set DNS to 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare). DNS failures from the ISP or router can prevent Fire TV from accessing services even when WiFi is connected.
-
Factory reset the Toshiba Fire TV.
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Reset to Factory Defaults. This clears all settings including WiFi credentials and forces a fresh setup. After the reset, reconnect to WiFi during the setup process — a corrupted network configuration is often the root cause of persistent connection failures.
When to Call a Professional
If the Toshiba Fire TV consistently shows as connected to WiFi but cannot access the internet on any app, and a factory reset does not help, the WiFi module may have failed.
