TV Won't Turn On / No Power

Toshiba Smart TV

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Toshiba TV not turning on is most often fixed by unplugging the TV from the wall for 60 seconds, then plugging back in and pressing power. Toshiba Fire TV models can also be reset using the remote — hold the Back button and the right direction pad button together for 10 seconds.

Affected Models

  • Toshiba Fire TV (C350, C450, M550 series)
  • Toshiba Smart TV (V35 series)
  • Toshiba OLED TV
  • Toshiba UHD TV

Common Causes

  • Internal software hang requiring a power reset
  • Toshiba Fire TV software crash causing a boot loop
  • Power supply board failure
  • Remote control battery flat
  • Power strip or surge protector failing to supply power

How to Fix It

  1. Perform a power reset.

Unplug the Toshiba TV from the wall socket — not just from a power strip switch. Wait a full 60 seconds, then plug back in and press the power button. This clears the TV's internal processor state and resolves most startup failures.

  2. Reset Toshiba Fire TV using the remote.

If the Toshiba TV runs Amazon Fire TV OS (most models sold since 2021), hold the Back button and the center of the directional ring on the Fire TV remote simultaneously for 10 seconds. A message will ask if you want to reset to factory defaults. Alternatively, hold only the Back button for 10 seconds to reboot without a full reset.

  3. Try the power button on the TV itself.

Remote control batteries dying can make it appear the TV is not responding. Locate the power button on the Toshiba TV body — usually on the back panel or the bottom edge. If the TV powers on with the body button, replace the remote batteries and point the remote directly at the TV's IR sensor.

  4. Check the power supply.

Plug the Toshiba TV directly into a wall outlet, not through a surge protector or extension cord. Surge protectors can trip into protection mode after a power event and block power entirely. Try a different wall outlet to rule out a failed outlet.

  5. Perform a factory reset via the Fire TV menu.

If the TV powers on but gets stuck on the Toshiba or Fire TV logo, try a factory reset. If accessible: Settings → My Fire TV → Reset to Factory Defaults. If the TV is completely unresponsive, hold Back + Right + Menu buttons on the Fire TV remote simultaneously for 10 seconds to enter the recovery menu.

When to Call a Professional

If the Toshiba TV's standby LED blinks a repeating pattern and the TV will not start after a power reset, the power supply or main board has failed. Contact Toshiba support or a TV repair specialist.
