ECG Not Working

Samsung Smart Watch

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Samsung Galaxy Watch ECG fails when the Samsung Health Monitor app is not installed, the feature is not available in your country, or your finger is not resting on the crown sensor. Install Samsung Health Monitor, confirm ECG is supported in your region, and hold your finger still on the home key.

Affected Models

  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 5
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 6
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch FE

Common Causes

  • Samsung Health Monitor app not installed on the paired smartphone
  • ECG feature not approved for use in your country or region
  • Finger not touching the home key (upper crown) during measurement
  • Watch worn too loosely — back sensor loses skin contact
  • Movement during the 30-second measurement window

How to Fix It

  1. Install the Samsung Health Monitor app on your paired Android phone.

ECG requires the Samsung Health Monitor app — it is separate from Samsung Health. Search for it in the Galaxy Store (not the Play Store) on your phone.

  2. Confirm ECG is approved in your country.

Samsung ECG is only available in countries where it has received regulatory approval. The Samsung Health Monitor app will display a message if ECG is not supported in your region.

  3. Rest your finger on the home key (upper crown button) for the full 30 seconds.

The ECG sensor uses your finger on the home key to complete the electrical circuit with the back sensor. Rest — do not press — your index or middle finger gently on the key and keep completely still.

  4. Tighten the watch band — the back sensor must be firmly against your wrist.

A loose watch breaks the electrical circuit needed for ECG. The watch should sit snugly, about two finger-widths above the wrist bone.

  5. Sit still and relax before and during measurement.

ECG requires complete stillness. Sit in a chair, rest your wrist on your knee or a flat surface, and breathe slowly. Even small movements cause a failed reading.
