Error Code 206

Adobe Adobe Software

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 206 means Creative Cloud could not download the app or update files it needs. Something is preventing Creative Cloud from reaching Adobe's download servers. This is almost always a network problem — either your connection itself, a firewall, a VPN, or a proxy server blocking the connection.

Affected Models

  • Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop App
  • All Creative Cloud applications on Windows and macOS

Common Causes

  • A firewall or security software is blocking connections to Adobe's download servers
  • A VPN is routing traffic in a way that prevents access to Adobe's CDN
  • Your internet connection dropped or is too unstable to complete a large download
  • A proxy server setting is incorrectly configured
  • Adobe's download servers are temporarily experiencing issues

How to Fix It

  1. Check Adobe's status page at status.adobe.com. If Adobe's download servers are having issues, wait and try again later.

Server-side outages are rare but do happen. Checking this first saves time if it is not your fault.

  2. Disconnect from any VPN and try the download again. VPNs change your network routing and can prevent Creative Cloud from reaching Adobe's servers.

This is the most common fix. If it works, consider adding an exception for Adobe traffic in your VPN settings.

  3. Clear Creative Cloud's download cache. In the Creative Cloud app, go to Preferences > Creative Cloud > Clear Cache. Then retry the download.

A partially downloaded file in the cache can prevent a clean retry.

  4. On Windows, open Internet Explorer or Edge and go to Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. Uncheck 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' if it is checked. Restart Creative Cloud.

Creative Cloud uses Windows' system proxy settings. A misconfigured proxy blocks downloads.

  5. Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus, then retry the download. If it succeeds, add Adobe's download domains to your security software's whitelist.

The main domains to whitelist are *.adobe.com, *.adobecc.com, and *.adobecs.com.

When to Call a Professional

If this error appears on a company computer, your IT department may need to whitelist Adobe's content delivery network (CDN) domains in the firewall. Adobe provides a full list of required domains at helpx.adobe.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a slow internet connection cause Error 206?

Yes. If your connection drops or slows below a certain threshold during a download, Creative Cloud times out and shows this error. Try using a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi for large Adobe downloads.

I am not using a VPN or proxy — why am I still getting Error 206?

Your router or modem may have its own firewall or content filtering that blocks Adobe's servers. Try restarting your router. If that does not help, temporarily connect your computer directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable to bypass the router.

Does Error 206 affect apps that are already installed?

No. Error 206 only affects downloads and updates. Your currently installed Adobe apps continue to work normally. You just cannot install new apps or update existing ones until the error is resolved.
