Error 38

Disney+ Streaming Service

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Error 38 means you have too many devices registered on your Disney+ account. Disney+ limits the number of devices that can be registered per account. Removing old or unused devices from your account settings fixes this.

Affected Models

  • All devices running Disney+
  • Samsung Smart TV
  • Apple TV
  • Amazon Fire Stick
  • Roku
  • Web browser

Common Causes

  • Too many devices registered to your account
  • Old devices still listed even after you stopped using them
  • Multiple family members adding new devices
  • Test devices or old phones still registered
  • Shared account with many users

How to Fix It

  1. Go to disneyplus.com and sign in to your account.

Device management is only available through the website, not in the Disney+ app.

  2. Go to Account > Devices.

Here you will see a list of all devices currently registered on your account.

  3. Identify devices you no longer use and click Remove next to each one.

Remove old phones, tablets, or TVs you replaced. Each removed device frees up a slot.

  4. Try opening Disney+ on your current device again.

After removing a device, the new device should be able to register and connect immediately.

  5. Use Log Out of All Devices if you are unsure which to remove.

This option logs out every device at once. You will need to sign in again on each device you want to use.

When to Call a Professional

Error 38 is self-fixable through your account settings. No professional help is needed. If you cannot identify which devices to remove, Disney+ support can help you review the list.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many devices can I register on Disney+?

Disney+ allows up to 10 devices to be registered per account. However, only a limited number can stream simultaneously (typically 4). If you hit the 10-device limit, you must remove old devices before adding new ones.

If I remove a device, do I lose my downloads on it?

Yes — removing a device also removes any downloaded content stored on that device. The downloads exist on the device itself, not on Disney+ servers. Your watchlist and viewing history are cloud-saved and will not be affected.

Can I see what devices are registered to my account?

Yes — go to disneyplus.com, sign in, and go to Account > Devices. You will see the device name and type for each registered device. You can remove any device from this list at any time.
