error_code_behind_live_window

ExoPlayer / Media3 Streaming App

Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

This error means you fell too far behind a live stream and the app can no longer catch up. Live streams only keep a short window of past content available — usually a few minutes. If you paused too long or your connection was too slow, your position is now outside that window.

Affected Models

  • CloudStream 3
  • Plex Media Player (Android)
  • Kodi
  • TiviMate
  • IPTV Smarters Pro
  • VLC for Android
  • Any Android app using ExoPlayer or Media3

Common Causes

  • You paused a live stream for longer than the server keeps available (usually 2-5 minutes)
  • Your internet connection was too slow and the stream fell behind in real time
  • The app was backgrounded or the screen turned off during live playback
  • The device went to sleep while a live stream was active
  • The app resumed after a crash and tried to continue from an old position

How to Fix It

  1. Close the stream completely. Do not try to resume or seek — just stop it.

There is no way to recover the old position. The live window has moved on and your saved position no longer exists on the server.

  2. Reopen the channel or stream from scratch.

Starting fresh loads the stream from the current live position, which is always within the available window.

  3. Once the stream starts, look for a Go Live or Live button and tap it to jump to the current broadcast.

Some apps start you slightly behind live. The Go Live button snaps you to the real-time edge of the stream.

  4. If the error repeats during playback, check your internet speed. Run a speed test — live streams need at least 10 Mbps for HD.

If your connection is too slow, the player cannot keep up with the live edge and will gradually fall behind until it hits this error.

When to Call a Professional

This error does not indicate a broken device or app. It is a normal live streaming limitation — no repair or support call is needed. Simply restart the stream and jump back to the live position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pause a live stream without getting this error?

Yes, but only for a short time — usually 2 to 5 minutes depending on the server. After that, the server discards the old data and your paused position no longer exists. Think of it like a conveyor belt: you can slow down briefly, but you cannot stop.

Is this error a sign that something is broken?

No, it is completely normal behavior for live streaming. Every live stream has a limited buffer window — this is how live TV works. The fix is always the same: stop and restart the stream.

Why does this happen when I come back to the app after leaving it in the background?

When the app is in the background, it may stop downloading stream data to save battery. By the time you return, your position may be minutes behind the live edge. Restart the stream and tap Go Live to get back to real time.
