DF-DFERH-01

Google Google Services

Severity: Moderate

What Does This Error Mean?

Error DF-DFERH-01 means Google Play Store encountered a problem downloading or installing an app. The "DF" stands for Download Failure. This error usually points to a problem with the Play Store app itself, your Google account data, or your device's app storage. It is fixable without factory resetting your phone.

Affected Models

  • Android phones and tablets
  • Samsung Galaxy
  • Google Pixel
  • OnePlus
  • Any Android device with Google Play

Common Causes

  • The Google Play Store app has corrupted data or cache
  • Your Google account needs to be refreshed on the device
  • There is not enough free storage space on your device
  • The Google Play Services app is outdated or has a problem
  • A temporary Google Play server error during the download

How to Fix It

  1. Clear the Play Store cache and data. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear Cache, then Clear Data.

This resets the Play Store app to a clean state. You will not lose your downloaded apps.

  2. Clear Google Play Services cache and data. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Services > Storage > Clear Cache.

Play Services runs in the background and supports all Play Store functions. Corrupted data here causes many download errors.

  3. Remove your Google account from the device and re-add it. Go to Settings > Accounts > Google > Remove account. Then add it again.

Refreshing the account connection fixes authentication errors that cause DF-DFERH-01.

  4. Check your available storage. Go to Settings > Storage. Make sure you have at least 500 MB free.

Even small apps need buffer space during installation. A nearly full device will fail downloads.

  5. Restart your phone and try downloading the app again.

A restart clears background processes and refreshes the connection to Google's servers.

When to Call a Professional

This error does not require professional help. If every fix fails and you cannot use the Play Store at all, a factory reset (after backing up your data) is the last resort. Before factory resetting, take your phone to a carrier store — they may have additional diagnostic tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will clearing Play Store data delete my apps?

No. Clearing the Play Store's data only resets the app's settings and login state — it does not uninstall apps you have downloaded. Your installed apps, their data, and your purchase history are not affected.

Does this error mean my Google account was hacked?

No. DF-DFERH-01 is a technical download error, not a security event. It has nothing to do with account security. If you are concerned about account security, check myaccount.google.com/security separately.

Why does this error happen on some apps but not others?

Certain apps may be larger or use different download methods that expose a bug in your Play Store setup. If only one specific app fails with this error, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Play Store updates. Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > three-dot menu > Uninstall updates.
