Snap Score Not Updating

Snapchat App

Severity:

What Does This Error Mean?

Snap Score updates are delayed — it can take up to 24 hours for your score to reflect recent activity. Only sending and receiving Snaps (photos/videos) adds to your score — Chats, Stories, and Memories do not count. Log out and back in to force a score refresh if the delay is over 24 hours.

Affected Models

  • Snapchat on iOS
  • Snapchat on Android

Common Causes

  • Score update delay — Snapchat batches score updates, not real-time
  • Sending Chat messages instead of Snaps — only photo/video Snaps count
  • App cache showing an outdated score from a previous session
  • Snapchat server-side score calculation delay during high traffic
  • Account flagged for suspicious activity pausing score accumulation

How to Fix It

  1. Wait up to 24 hours

Snap Scores do not update in real time. Snapchat processes scores in batches — your score may appear to be stuck but will update after the next batch cycle.

  2. Make sure you are sending Snaps, not Chats

Only photo or video Snaps sent and received add to your score. Text messages (Chats) do not count. Take a photo or video snap and send it to a friend — this is the only action that increases the score.

  3. Log out and back in

Snapchat → Settings → Log Out. Wait 30 seconds, log back in. The app fetches the current score from the server on login, which may show a higher number than what was displayed before.

  4. Clear the Snapchat app cache

Snapchat → Settings → Account Actions → Clear Cache. This removes the locally stored old score data and forces the app to fetch the current score from Snapchat's servers.

  5. Update the Snapchat app

Check the App Store or Google Play for a Snapchat update. Known bugs in specific app versions can cause score display errors — updating often resolves them.

When to Call a Professional

Snap Score issues are cosmetic and do not affect app functionality. No account action is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

My friend's Snap Score isn't showing — why?

Snapchat allows users to hide their Snap Score from non-friends. If you can see their score, you are friends. If you cannot, they may have restricted visibility or removed you as a friend.

Snap Score goes up when viewing others' scores but not my own — why?

Your own score display lags behind your friend's view of your score. Log out and back in to force your own profile to show the updated number.

Does Snap Score reset? Mine went down — why?

Snap Scores never decrease under normal circumstances. If your score appears lower, the app is showing a cached (old) value. Clear the cache or log out and back in.
