Severity: Minor

What Does This Error Mean?

Spotify lyrics aren't available for every song or every region. The lyrics feature also requires you to be logged in. Updating the app and checking your settings usually fixes it.

  • Spotify on Mac
  • Spotify on iPhone
  • Spotify on Android

Common Causes

  • Lyrics aren't available for all songs or all countries
  • Your Spotify app is out of date
  • You're not logged into your Spotify account
  • Lyrics are turned off in your Now Playing settings

How to Fix It

  1. Check if the song has lyrics available.

Not every song on Spotify has lyrics. Try a popular song from a major artist to test.

  2. Update Spotify to the latest version.

Open your app store (App Store, Google Play, or Microsoft Store) and update Spotify.

  3. Log out of Spotify and log back in.

Go to Settings > Log Out. Then sign back in with your username and password.

  4. Enable lyrics in the Now Playing screen.

While a song is playing, tap the microphone icon or lyrics button at the bottom of the screen.

  5. Reinstall the Spotify app.

Uninstall Spotify, restart your device, then download and install Spotify fresh from the app store.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do some songs on Spotify not have lyrics?

Spotify licenses lyrics from third-party providers. Not every song has a lyrics license, especially older tracks or songs from smaller artists. This is a Spotify limitation — not a bug on your device.

Do I need Spotify Premium to see lyrics?

No — lyrics are available on the free Spotify plan. But you must be logged in to a Spotify account. Guest or offline mode will not show lyrics.

Lyrics were working before — why did they stop?

A recent app update may have reset your settings. Try tapping the microphone icon on the Now Playing screen to re-enable them. If that doesn't work, log out and back in.
